Welcome!

We are the home of TEAM AV and The Mighty Wildcats!

Our OFFICE HOURS are: 8AM-4:30PM, Monday through Friday, and we are located at 335 El Centro Street, South Pasadena, CA, 91030. We are at the corner of Pasadena Avenue and El Centro Street, bordered to the east by Cawston Street, and to the south, Hawthorne Street. The office doors are most proximate to the Pasadena Avenue side while the large campus gate is closer to Cawston.

Also, there is a cul de sac off the eastern-most Hawthorne side of our campus for drop off and pick ups.

SERIOUSLY, NO PEANUTS!
We are an absolute PEANUT FREE ZONE.
NO PEANUTS!!
We need for you and your student to heed this policy because we have students who have life-threatening allergies to peanuts and peanut-derived products. This applies to foods or snacks that are created with equipment processed with peanuts.

Trace amounts of peanuts (even by breath, in the air, or oil left on a table) can be extremely dangerous to some of our highly-allergic students. Do not pack peanut butter sandwiches for your child's lunches, or any product that hints of peanuts at the manufacturing plant. If your student craves a nut butter, try Sun-butter (a product similar to peanut butter made of sunflower seeds). There are also certain classrooms that may have other food restrictions; please check with your child's teacher.

BELL SCHEDULE

KAM: 8:10-11:35a
KPM: 11:35-3:00p
Please check for special staggered or double session days that apply for PM Kinders.

1st/2nd grade: 8:10-2:25pm, Monday through Thursday; 1:05pm dismissal on Fridays.
3rd grade: 8:10-2:45pm, Monday through Thursday; 1:05pm dismissal on Fridays.
4th/5th grades: 8:10-2:50pm, Monday through Thursday; 1:15pm dismissal on Fridays.

Lunch schedule:
Grade 1: 11:30-12:15pm
Grades 2-3: 11:50-12:35pm
Grades 4-5: 12:15-1:00pm
Students remain at the lunch tables for 20 minutes

We applaud punctuality, however, it is not a reason to drop your student off at school before 8am. There is no supervision in the yard prior to 8am. Your student's safety is paramount -- so please have your student arrive AFTER 8am.

Students are to be in their seats by 8:10am. After 8:15am, a student is considered late and, should your student be late, please have him/her come into the office for a Tardy Slip prior to entering class.

ABSENCE LINE
If your student is absent for whatever reason, please contact the office through the Absence Verification line: 626.441-5840, press 1 at the greeting. Please cite the name of your student, the teacher's name, and the reason for absence.

If your student is out for more than 2 consecutive school days, you may request homework on the Absence Line, preferably before 9am. The homework is generally ready to be picked up by late afternoon in the office. Once your student is hale and hearty, direct your child to the office for a Re-Admit "ticket" before returning to class. This helps our auditors tremendously.

INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAM:
If you anticipate taking your child out for more than 5 consecutive days, excluding holidays, please consider an Independent Study contract. This helps our district preserve our ADA on your student ($35.00 per day) plus your student receives credit for the missed days. This does require some advanced planning, at least two weeks, for the teacher to collect the homework packet, so please bear that in mind. For more information, contact Suzie Wong.

RUNNING LATE FOR AFTER-SCHOOL PICK-UP?
Students must be picked up promptly at the end of class. Please contact the office at 626.441-5840 x 4901 should you be running late longer than 10 minutes. Alternatively, arrange for someone on your emergency contact list to pick up your child. Only those contacts noted on your emergency contact list are AUTHORIZED to take your child home -- it is imperative that these contacts are current in our records.

For specific enrollment policies, registration procedures, school jurisdictions, and accountability reports, please go to www.spusd.net

Helpful Hints About The Flu Season

Some helpful hints about the flu season:

What can families, students, and school personnel do to keep from getting sick and spreading the flu?

Families, students and school staff can keep from getting sick with the flu in three ways:

1. Practicing good hand hygiene. Students and staff members should wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective (should be used by students and children only when supervised).

2. Practicing respiratory etiquette. The main way that the flu spreads is from person to person in the droplets produced by coughs and sneezes, so it’s important to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.

3. Staying home if you’re sick. Keeping sick students at home means that they keep their viruses to themselves rather than sharing them with others.

Students, staff, and their families must take personal responsibility for helping to slow the spread of the virus by practicing these steps to keep from getting sick with the flu and protecting others from getting the flu.

Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (the time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice) is the best way to keep your hands from spreading the virus. Alcohol-based hand cleaners containing at least 60% alcohol are also effective. If soap and water are not available and alcohol-based products are not allowed in the school, other hand sanitizers that do not contain alcohol may be useful for cleaning hands. However, they may not be as effective as alcohol-based sanitizers.

Fever-reducing medications are medicines that contain acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Motrin). These medicines can be given to people who are sick with the flu to help bring their fever down and relieve their pain. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) should not be given to children or teenagers who have the flu; this can cause a rare by serious illness called Reye’s syndrome.

A sick student can return to school after 24 hours have passed with a normal temperature (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit or 37 degrees Celsius) without the use of fever-reducing medications. As the sick person begins to feel better you may decide to stop giving fever-reducing medicines. Continue to monitor their temperature until the temperature has been normal for 24 hours.

For more information: Visit: www.flu.gov or you can contact CDC 24 hours/Every Day at 1 (800) 232-4636.
